May 12, 2025 by Drew Smith
Drew Smith, Director of Communications for Copiers Plus presents the Greater Wilmington Chamber Foundation with a big check during one of their Career and Leadership Development Academy (CLDA) showcase events at Trask Middle School in Wilmington, NC. Employees of the Chamber, Laura Brogdon-Primavera, VP of Leadership Development, Jacki Booth, Manager of Leadership Programs, and Zoey LeTendre, Manager of Leadership Programs, accepted the check alongside several Trask Middle School seventh grade CLDA participants.

The Greater Wilmington Chamber Foundation is shaping the future of Wilmington by investing in people. With a mission to promote public knowledge, awareness, and understanding of matters of public concern, the Foundation improves the health, safety, education, and welfare of citizens in southeastern North Carolina. Its dedication to protecting and strengthening Wilmington’s business community makes it a vital partner in the region, and we’re thrilled to support it through our 40 Years of Caring initiative!

Driving Impact Through Workforce and Leadership Development

Founded in 1739, the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce is distinguished as the first and longest continually operating chamber of commerce in the state. Made up of over 1,000 members, including both large and small businesses, it represents more than 40,000 employees in southeastern NC.

The foundation arm of the Chamber partners with educational institutions, the business community, and non-profits to improve the current and future workforce. From career exploration to leadership development and talent acquisition, the Foundation leads programs that make a real difference, such as:

  • Leadership Wilmington
  • Career and Leadership Development Academy
  • Healthcare Talent Pipeline

These initiatives boost economic mobility, prepare future leaders, and ensure Wilmington remains a thriving economic hub that is also a great place to live and play.

A Voice of Support

Laura Brogdon-Primavera, who serves as Vice President of Leadership Development at the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce, knows firsthand how essential the Greater Wilmington Chamber Foundation’s work is to the region.

“Building career pathways to economic mobility and positioning Wilmington as a forerunner in the talent wars is incredibly important to grow a thriving community,” she explained. “The work of the foundation arm of the chamber of commerce is critical to that success.”

Inspiring Real Change

Brogdon-Primavera has witnessed many examples of the Foundation’s work in action, but two stories stand out.

For the past 40 years, Leadership Wilmington has organized the region’s largest volunteer day—Work on Wilmington—rallying thousands to serve area schools and non-profits. One project built shaded dugouts at the Boys and Girls Club, offering relief to young athletes playing under the hot sun.

Another powerful story comes from the Career and Leadership Development Academy, where a student grieving the loss of her grandmother to COVID-19 discovered a passion for respiratory therapy after a healthcare career field trip—an experience that opened a life-changing door.

The Power of a $500 Donation

Every dollar counts, and in partnership with Kyocera, we’re honored to help bolster the Foundation’s impact. The $500 donated through the 40 Years of Caring campaign will help fund the Career and Leadership Development Academy, providing career exploration opportunities to all 7th graders in New Hanover County Schools completely free of charge.

How You Can Support
