Toner Pirates are scary. They trick unaware companies into giving them information about their copiers and printers. They may make several phone calls to gather bits of information. Then they may use high pressure sales tactics or appeal to your sense of urgency to get you to make the decision to buy their toner now.
One tactic that we see often is that someone will call claiming to be a representative from your current copier company. They will say that the price of toner is getting ready to go up and they are offering you toner at a discounted price as a loyal customer. Remember, they may have already called and gotten information about your equipment so they are able to make their statements very believable. After they receive your toner order, you will receive a shipment of toner and an outrageous bill. In some cases we have seen companies receive toner (and the bill) just because someone has given them information over the phone but did not consent to order any toner. When the Toner Pirates have your equipment information they have the advantange. Buyer Beware. If you did not initiate the call, be leary.
There are some things you can do to ensure that your company is not a victim of Toner Pirates:
If the caller is truly your equipment company, they will have your information.
Never place an order over the phone unless you initiate the call. Ask for a call back number. They will hang up.
Beware of terms such as: Beat the price increase; Last remaining stock; Offer expiring today
Ask for company references. They will hang up.
Designate someone within the company/department to handle all matters regarding your equipment or supply ordering.
Inform everyone who answers the phone within your company about Toner Pirates and what to look for. Most businesses have equipment contracts that include the toner at no additional charge.
Never sign for a shipment that you cannot confirm was ordered.
DO NOT ACCEPT DELIVERY - return any unordered shipments to the sender
If the order has already been accepted, DO NOT USE THE TONER. Send the shipper a letter stating that there is no valid proof of the order and that the shipment will be disposed of in 30 days if the merchandise is not recovered and that you invalidate any claim that you accepted an offer of sale by keeping the shipment. Send this letter registered/certified mail with return receipt requested.
DO NOT PAY AN INVOICE FOR UNAUTHORIZED SHIPMENTS. If the shipping company does not respond to your certified letter within 30 days, notifiy the Better Business Bureau in your area.
Contact your equipment dealer and advise them of the Toner Pirate scam in your area. These companies use auto-dial systems to call business numbers in sequence. If you've received a call, the following numbers in the series will receive a call as well. Your equipment dealer will put other customers on alert.
Also keep in mind that using toner other than that provided by your original equipment manufacturer or from your authorized dealer may void any and all warranties and service contracts. Refurbished or unauthorized toner may damage your equipment.

Misfed or Skewed Copies
First, ask yourself, is the paper loaded in the paper drawer correctly? Follow the steps below which may be a quick fix:
1. Remove the paper from the drawer and check the pages at the bottom of the stack. Are they curled up or under? Remove and discard any bent or curled sheets. Fan the paper before putting it back in the drawer.
2. Check to make sure the paper guides are adjusted tightly against the paper.
3. Check and make sure that your printer/copier settings are set to match the type of media your using (card stock, glossy, envelopes). The rollers may not have enough tension to pull through specialy papers if not set correctly.
4. If a misfeed or skewing still exists, try a different paper drawer. If you are not having the same issue with this drawer, call for service.
5. If a misfeed or skewing is not a problem with the second drawer, call for service on the first drawer and use the second drawer until a technician arrives and corrects the problem.
Lines/Smudges on Copies
Sometimes a quick clean up will take care of this issue.
1. Clean both pieces of glass, the large platen and the small slit of glass just to the left of it (scan glass) with window cleaner. Spray a cloth with the cleaner to apply. Do not spray directly on the glass.
2. If the line still exists, make a copy directly on the platen glass instead of through the document feeder. If the line still exists, the problem is coming from inside the machine and you will need to call service.
3. If the the line is not there when making a copy directly on the platen, make a copy using the document feeder. If the copy has the line one it, compare your copy to the scan glass (the slit to left of the platen). If you find a mark, remove it with your thumb nail. Make another copy using the document feeder. If the line still appears on the copy, call for service.
If you are having trouble sending or receiving faxes, try the tips below:
1. Check the phone line. Press "Off Hook" or "Line Monitor" to make sure you have a dial tone.
2. If there is no dial tone, make sure the telephone line cord is plugged into the wall outlet. Make sure the line is plugged into the fax port on the machine securely. If the line cord is correct, contact your phone company.
3. If you have a dial tone, call for service.
1. Turn the machine off at both power switches (the sub switch on the control panel and the main switch on the side or back of the machine).
2. Wait until the power light turns off before turning of the main switch.
3. Wait 20 seconds and then turn the main power switch back on, and then the sub switch on the control panel. If the error code has not cleared call for service.
1. Turn the machine off by the sub switch and the main switch as described above.
2. Wait 20 seconds, then turn the main switch and the sub switch back on.
3. Wait at least five minutes, giving the machine's controller time to boot up, then try to print/scan again.
4. If the machine will still not print/scan, call for service.

Copiers Plus has received the Kyocera Premier Dealer award for the 10th year. This prestigious award is granted to less than 8% of Kyocera's 435 dealers nationwide for reaching manufacturer growth year over year. The award was presented to owners Bob and Tim Smith during Kyocera's annual Kick-Off in Las Vegas on April 16th.
Copiers Plus was also presented with the Gold Medallion Service Solution Provider Award for Excellence in Customer Service Solutions. Copiers Plus has received this award from Kyocera since 2004 and from their predecessor since 1997.

Savings on service and repair cost - a Maintenance Agreement is based on the volume of copies and prints made during the year and NOT on the number of service calls needed to keep the device up and running smoothly. Maintenance Agreements include parts, labor, toner, supplies and travel. With an agreement in place, clients are not subject to any price increases that occur for the duration of the agreement.
Priority Call Status - service calls for clients with an existing Maintenance Agreement are placed on priority status. Clients on a Time and Material basis will receive service after MA clients are taken care of.
Minimum downtime - Maintenance Agreement clients are on priority call status and many are set up for automated reporting so that problems with copy and print devices are reported before the device goes down.
Optimize print quality - copy and print quality is a reflection of a client's business. Maintenance Agreements ensure that clients receive the fastest response time to keep copy/print quality at a premium.
Maintain a regular maintenance schedule - Maintenance Agreements include scheduled preventative maintenance check-ups to reduce service calls, maintain copy quality and prevent down time.
Prolong the life of your copiers and printers - timely response time to service calls and scheduled preventative maintenance maintains every component of the client's copy and print devices to ensure damage to additional parts does not occur and extends the life of the device.
Loaner device when needed - a loaner is provided to the client to reduce down time when a copy or print device cannot be repaired in a timely manner.
Automated Toner Replenishment - copy and print devices on a Maintenance Agreement are set up to report toner levels and toner is automatically shipped as needed. This will free up the office staff to focus on other important tasks, prevent the purchase and storing of toner, prevent downtime due to a lack of supplies and eliminate the chance of having toner remaining when a copy or print device is replaced.
No freight charges - client's on a Maintenance Agreement are not charged freight for toner and supplies. Toner and supplies are shipped UPS overnight, next day delivery.
NO SURPRISES - with a Maintenance Agreement, a client is able to budget funds for copy and print device service and supplies. Usage is monitored to keep overage charges at a minimum. Copiers Plus does not charge a higher rate for overages than the volume included within the Agreement. Device service and supplies is the leading unaudited business expense. A Maintenance Agreement allows a business to control these expenses.

A managed print services companies first priority should be to present a value added product to the customer whether it be equipment, supplies or service. An MPS Contract enhances their ability to do that through office automation. Service issues, supplies and toner orders are monitored and automatically reported before the client has a down machine or runs out of toner. Toner and supplies are automatically shipped or a technician is dispatched. This also reduces cost to the dealer on unnecessary supplies being ordered or ordered by multiple persons. January 2014 - Buyers Lab LLC, the world's leading independent tester of document imaging products awarded "Outstanding Achievement" accolades to the most energy-efficient models recently tested. The winners showed significantly lower energy consumption for their respective product categories and offer a wide range of features while remaining environmentally friendly to help users reduce their overall environmental impact.
Four Canon A4-size devices earned energy efficiency accolades this test season. When compared against the average of their respective competitive groups, the 42-ppm imageClass LBP6780dn and the 42-ppm imageRUNNER LBP3580 exhibited projected annual energy consumption rates 50 percent lower than average, while the 21-ppm imageRUNNER LBP5280 and the 52-ppm imageRUNNER Advance 500iF had projected annual energy consumption rates 58 and 61 percent lower than average, respectiviley. Plus, each device offers a job review mode, which allows users to review settings prior to printing or copying to reduce waste; and toner-save mode, which helps users reduce toner usage.
Two Muratec devices exhibited exceptional energy efficiency in BLI's environmental tests. In fact, the Muratec MFX-3590's projected energy consumption rate was 51 percent lower than average and the MFX-3530's projected energy consumption rate was 53 percent lower than average when compared against competitive A4-size monochrome MFPs in the small workgroup segment. And both devices exhibited higher than average tested toner yields that also exceeded manufacturer-rated yields. Additional environmental benefits include automatic duplexing, job review mode for print output and toner-save print mode.
